French alphabet pronunciation for beginners is one of the most basic and essential steps in the French language learning journey. But so many beginners feel that the French alphabet is overwhelming and difficult to retain. Not only are there so many French letters and sounds to memorize, but a lot of these sounds are often foreign to English speakers. That’s why, in this video, I break down all the letters into bite-sized segments, and give you tons of French alphabet pronunciation practice along the way. With all my explanations, examples, and assessment activities, you can learn how to pronounce French alphabet names and sounds in a way that is manageable and memorable.
Instead of listing off all the French letters and their sounds, we first look at the consonants and divide them into three subgroups. We go over how to pronounce all the French consonants’ names, giving special attention to any difficulties that English speakers may have. After a mini-activity, in which you practice the identification and pronunciation of these French letters, we then move on to the vowels, and repeat the same mini-activity for even more beginner French pronunciation practice.
After learning how to pronounce the French alphabet, we then turn to French sounds, again dividing the letters into consonants and vowels. In this section, you will not only learn how to pronounce French alphabet sounds, but you will also learn which letters have more than one sound, as well as how to identify the correct sound in any given word.
In a nutshell, by the end of this video, you will be able to confidently say that you know how to pronounce French alphabet names and sounds, and thus start building a strong foundation for your French language learning journey!
