This is the first baby beaver born in this Scottish National Park in over 400 years!
Beavers were extinct in Scotland but are finally returning. Scotland started to reintroduce them in 2009 officially. These beavers were born in Cairngroms National Park not too long ago. Last year the people responsible released four beaver families and hoped they would reproduce … and their wishes came true. That makes these baby beavers the first wild-born beavers in the National Park in over 400 years! Beavers are important ‘ecosystem engineers’. They change and re-naturalise the landscape around them. This helps to restore rivers and wetlands, which in turn helps to reduce the impacts of climate change and boost biodiversity.
