Anna Karenina is a 1974 ballet film based on the story of the same name by Leo Tolstoy.
The film is based on the ballet by R. Shchedrin, which premiered earlier at the Bolshoi Theater in 1972.

SUMMARY
Prologue
Vronsky - at the station where the misfortune happened. Looking at the dead Anna, he realizes that now his life has lost its meaning.
I action
Anna Karenina comes to Moscow to visit her brother Steva's family. On the train, she meets Countess Vronskaya, Alexei's mother.
Anna and Vronsky are introduced to each other.
By the will of fate, they become witnesses of an accident: a train runs into a person.
In the house of the Shtcherbatsky princes, Levin proposes to Kitty, but she refuses him because she is in love with Vronsky.
At the ball, Anna dances with Vronsky all evening, he does not hide his admiration for the young woman. Kitty was in despair: she was expecting a marriage proposal from Vronsky.
Anna returns to Petersburg. She is worried about the thoughts of Vronsky and she leaves sooner than she wanted, only in order to no longer meet with him.
However, Vronsky takes the same train. At the Bologoye station, Alexei confesses his love to Anna.
At the station in St. Petersburg, Anna is met by her husband, Alexei Karenin. Meeting with her dearly beloved son returns Anna to her usual life track.
In the salon of Princess Betsy Tverskoy, Anna again meets Vronsky. His courtship becomes more and more persistent. Anna accepts them.
Karenin is perplexed by Anna's behavior and asks her not to commit rash acts, not to violate the well-known laws of decency, which cannot be violated with impunity, but Anna pretends that she does not understand her husband's warnings.
Left alone, Vronsky never ceases to think about Anna. In a dream, he sees a man crushed at the station, then a series of visions with Anna's participation replace each other.
Anna comes to Vronsky ...
II action
The entire Petersburg society gathered at the hippodrome in Krasnoe Selo. At the races, Anna does not take her eyes off Vronsky. Suddenly Vronsky's horse falls.
Anna cannot contain her feelings. She confesses to Karenin her love for Vronsky. Karenin demands that Anna leave the races with him.
Karenin is afraid of rumors and condemnation of society and demands that the external conditions of decency be observed.
Anna is seriously ill. On the verge of life and death, she asks for forgiveness from her husband, and he promises to forget her betrayal. But, having recovered from her illness, Anna learns from Betsy Tverskaya that Vronsky tried to commit suicide. She leaves her husband and son and, together with Vronsky, leaves for Italy.
Longing for her son makes Anna return to Russia. She secretly comes to Karenin's house to see Seryozha, but her husband kicks her out.
Anna's suffering from separation from her son, the humiliation that Anna experienced while attending the opera break her heart. The circle in which Vronsky remained is closed to her. Tormented by loneliness and jealousy, Anna sees no other way out but to commit suicide. She throws herself under the train.
