Hello everyone, for the past months I've been working on Embodiments, a research project about creating procedural characters.
In this devlog I explain the different ideas and techniques that I used in order to create this first iteration for the project. I used Houdini FX to generate the base shapes for the different types of modules. Modules are basic shapes that can contain sockets which can spawn other modules. The main goal is to create characters that can generate a sense of identity by connecting and inheriting other modules properties.
I created the logic in Unreal Engine 5 to enable connections and dynamics between modules. In the future I will explore different methods to animate and give this embodiments a world to interact with.
