Importance of Salt
Salt is formed when an acid reacts with a base.
acid + Base = Salt
Strong acid + Strong base = Neutral salt
Strong acid + Weak base = Acidic salt
Weak acid + Strong base = Basic salt

Potassium sulphate
Copper sulphate
Magnesium sulphate
Sodium chloride
Sodium carbonate
Common salt is Sodium chloride also used in our food. Some of the products of common salt are
Sodium hydroxide
Sodium hydroxide is produced from the aqueous solution of sodium chloride (called Brine solution) when electricity is passed through it.
Bleaching powder
Chlorine gas is produced by the chlor-alkali process.
This Cl is passed on to dry slaked lime to produce bleaching powder.
Baking soda
Washing soda
