How do you actually start learning Arabic from ZERO?
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed or didn’t know where to begin, this video is for you!
In this video, I share how I personally started learning Arabic from ZERO, and the exact mindset and steps that helped me build momentum and stay consistent.
Because honestly… starting is the hardest part.
The truth about starting Arabic
A lot of people get stuck before they even begin because they don’t know where to start. But once you take that first step, the path becomes clearer.
Small steps and consistency is the key for real progress.
Step 1: Learn the sounds of the Arabic language (not perfection)
When starting Arabic, it’s incredibly important to do the following:
become familiar with Arabic sounds
practice pronunciation early
understand that some sounds may not exist in your native language
You don’t need to master this in one day.
Take your time and be patient with yourself, remember... this is a whole new language you're learning that is completely different from English or your native language.
Step 2: Learn the alphabet gradually
Arabic letters can seem overwhelming at first because they change form depending on position (beginning, middle, end), and they look very different initially.
But you WILL get used to it.
I recommend using resources on Youtube, writing in a notebook, and practicing slowly
Some resources I mentioned for learning the Alphabet and writing:
• Lesson 1 Arabic from the Beginning (Lesson 1 Arabic from the Beginning - Imran Alawiye)
LearnArabicWithMaha (excellent for beginners)
Structured alphabet lesson playlist
• Read & Write ANYTHING in Arabic in only 6 ...
Step 3: Set your goal (VERY important)
Before going too far, you need to ask:
Why are you learning Arabic?
Because this determines whether you will learn
MSA (Modern Standard Arabic), or a dialect
🌍 MSA vs Dialect
MSA is taught in schools, used in media, literature, news, etc.
Dialects are used in real-life conversations with native speakers.
If your goal is to:
talk to native speakers
travel
connect with people
You should eventually choose a dialect
Examples:
Egyptian Arabic (widely understood)
Levantine Arabic (common in many communities)
Step 4: Start speaking early
One of the BEST things about Arabic is that Native speakers LOVE when you try. So go out and use greetings, speak to people, and practice in real situations.
This builds confidence and momentum!!
Step 5: Surround yourself with Arabic
Subscribe to Arabic learning channels
Watch content in your dialect
Immerse yourself in the language daily
Step 6: Use structured resources
Books or courses with audio are VERY helpful because they:
guide your learning
provide structure
build progressively
Arabic is a challenging language, but it is absolutely possible.
You don’t need to be perfect.
Just start.
Take small steps.
Stay consistent.
AND YOU WILL IMPROVE!
