Qualcomm has unveiled the date for its next Snapdragon Tech Summit event. This is the event where the company unveils its flagship smartphone chipset every year. The Snapdragon Tech Summit 2023 event is where the company is expected to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor that will power most high-end smartphones in 2024.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2023 will occur on October 24, 2023, in Maui, Hawaii. The event will conclude on October 26, 2023. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which will be unveiled during this event, is expected to be used in some Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra units early next year. Other high-end smartphones from Honor, iQOO, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Sony, Vivo, and Xiaomi will also use this chipset.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will use ARM's new Cortex-X4, Cortex-A720, and Cortex-A520 CPU cores
According to previous leaks, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is made using TSMC's 4nm (N4P) process, which slightly improves over Snapdragon 8 Gen 2's 4nm (N4) fabrication process. The chipset will feature one Cortex-X4 CPU core, five Cortex-A720 CPU cores, and two Cortex-A520 CPU cores. The Adreno 750 GPU will reportedly be much faster than the Adreno 740 GPU used in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Various reports have suggested that the Xiaomi 14 will be the first phone to launch with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Regarding the Galaxy S24 series, the rumor is that Samsung is bringing back Exynos chips to the lineup. So, some countries will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 variants of Galaxy S24, while others will get the Exynos 2400 variants. How the Exynos 2400 compares to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 remains to be seen.
ABOUT CAMERA.
The Galaxy S20 Ultra was Samsung's first smartphone with a long-range zoom camera. It featured a 48MP telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom (a.k.a Space Zoom). Later that year, the company dropped the telephoto camera resolution to 12MP with the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra but increased the optical zoom to 5x. With the Galaxy S21 Ultra, it settled for two 10MP telephoto cameras with 3x and 10x zoom.
Next year, the company is making the biggest change to zoom cameras over the past three years, according to a report from GalaxyClub. The Galaxy S24 Ultra will reportedly feature more zoom level for one of its telephoto cameras.
Galaxy S24 Ultra to feature 5x optical zoom camera
After using a set of two 10MP telephoto cameras (3x and 10x) for three years (S21 Ultra, S22 Ultra, and S23 Ultra), Samsung will finally replace the 3x telephoto camera with a 5x telephoto camera on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. While there have been reports of Samsung trying to implement a continuous zoom lens for telephoto cameras on its future phones, it looks like the company will stick to a combination of two telephoto cameras for the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
No further details about the resolution of the telephoto cameras on the Galaxy S24 Ultra have been revealed so far. Since the launch of the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to happen in early 2024, we expect to see more information about its cameras by the end of this year. So far, it has been reported that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will stick to a 200MP sensor for its main camera. The company will also bring more RAM and storage to base variants of the Galaxy S24.
Unlike this year, Samsung could bring back Exynos chips with the Galaxy S24 series. The Exynos 2400 with an upgraded AMD GPU with 4x more performance is reportedly in the works. It could also be the first smartphone series from Samsung to run Android 14 out of the box.
