This was so much more than a fight against shale, this brought into play the reality of a community battling for its future, its free reign and right to clean air, a communities right to family values and safety, against an outside company that came rolling into town with the promise of millions in return and thousands in employment.
This was never to be as everything those who protested against it said so, there was no return of investment for very patient share holders, there was no magic extraction of 50 years worth of gas, and there was certainly no local jobs being created unless you count those in the orange jackets which usually and during could be seen on the doors of nightclubs in Blackpool.
Between the people and mother nature Cuadrilla and its 100% failure record reared its ugly drill head again, losing the drill head, causing chaos in terms of leaking Methane into the atmosphere and over 200 tremors including three very large Quakes that Francis Egan tried to compare to the spilling of melons, ha.
It is safe to say they never got off the ground and that was thanks to a mighty force joined at the hip regardless of backgrounds, regardless of ways of protest, regardless of any rule book and with much unity the folks of Preston New road and beyond made their future.
