This is my first attempt at creating a new environment for F-Zero.
Code name: "Cloud Ocean"
For now you can see that I have integrated :
New electric roadside barriers: They are copied directly from F-Zero Climax (GBA), but with a new color choices, and most importantly... (it may not seem much but I'm quite happy with myself so I insist)... a directional shadow! This gives a little more volume to the barriers, which look very "flat" (in my opinion) in the original game.
I was inspired by the illustration of the Japanese cover: https://images.launchbox-app.com/a959...
The barriers are in volume and have a shadow, I really wanted to find this feeling (the "bulging" aspect and the shadow that gives volume) in the game!
A background, off the road, made of scrolling clouds. I took the 8 main colors from the cloud palette of the F-Zero Maximum Velocity (GBA) Cloud Carpet circuit and drew these cloud strips myself.
I couldn't completely recover the clouds from FZMV because FZSNES doesn't allow to move the background image. The feeling of displacement that you can see in the original FZSNES environments is actually a simple change of colors of a static image... But this constraint was very good because I had to create a background myself (I'm not a graphic designer so I tried it, you tell me if it's successful!...^^)
A fruity (between pink and red) and refreshing (white/blue) palette to dress the whole.
So here is the beginning of a new environment, which should potentially soon welcome a new track level design as well... (if I decide to finish my circuit started in 2010 and abandoned since).
To be continued...
