The rise of baobab trees in Madagascar
Madagascar may be the true birthplace of the iconic baobab tree, according to new genomic analyses published in Nature! The study led by Qing-Feng Wang, Tao Wan and colleagues, traces the baobab’s origins back 41 million years and highlights the need to protect endangered Malagasy species, which face threats from climate change and habitat loss.
