Title: Faith, Hope, Love
The effects of COVID19 have brought massive changes in our daily lives. From bonding
with friends and classmates, great time at work, and outing with family to suddenly being
restricted in going out and meeting with our loved ones. On our video, throwback pictures and
video clips pre-pandemic were all in black and white. It signifies that we have left with no choice
but to just reminisce those moments.
Transitioning to what we call “new normal” was never easy. The first few months of the
pandemic was tough, it has indeed affected people’s well-being. On the video we created, we
highlighted the main struggles that affected the general Filipino population, which includes
“madaming nawalan ng trabaho” – this happened because a lot of jobs weren’t suited for work
at home system, most especially the minimum and below minimum waged earners like public
transport drivers; “mental health issues”- anxiety and depression were triggered, one factor of
this is loss of loved one due to the virus; “naapektuhan ang pag-aaral” – this talks about how
online learning have affected those people who have limited internet and devices suitable for
online class; “di maka concentrate sa pag-aaral” – it pertains to students who are lacking of
environments conducive to learning at home; and lastly, “lack of money” – which is due to loss
of income and shortage of budget.
We also showed the major changes we faced as we adjust on this new normal, such as
wearing mask when going out, spraying alcohol, always washing our hands and disinfecting our
things. Little did we know, we’re now slowly getting used to them and starts to embrace them.
The way we adapted to new normal was focused through healing and recovery. Thus, we
came up with an idea to construe this overall process with “faith”, “hope”, and “love” which
depicts the resiliency of Filipino people.
In times of difficulty and adverse situations like pandemic, Filipinos' immediate
recourse is their faith. The Veritas Truth Survey, launched by Radyo Veritas in
June, indicated that 89% of the respondents answered that faith is “very
important” in the fight against COVID-19 (Cornelio, 2020).
Various mutual aid operations across the Philippines have been inspired by a
community-based food bank, also locally known as “community pantry”, which
was founded to help the hungry and less privileged people. It surely brought and
inspired hope amidst pandemic and economic crisis (Mongaya, 2021).
It is important to strengthen relationships and access psychosocial and mental
health support (Cudis, 2020) from family and other loved ones. Hence, Filipinos,
as family oriented people and having a collectivist culture, are indeed coping
through the pandemic through showing love and support to one another.
Lastly, we would like to personally express how we transitioned to the new normal with
a self-composed song entitled “Pagbangon”, summarizing our on-going journey in this COVID 19
pandemic and remembering how we cope up from all these struggles through Faith, Hope and
Love.
