Wind Flow over a Mountain Range - Atmospheric Stratification Simulation in FDS (Lee Waves)

In this video, we explore a 2D simulation of wind flow over a mountain range using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). This case tests the effects of atmospheric stratification on wind patterns and how varying terrain impacts airflow. It is one of the verification examples provided with FDS, specifically designed to assess how the model handles atmospheric stratification.

Key features of this simulation:

A wind speed of 5 m/s with an atmospheric lapse rate of 0.005 K/m.
The mountain range is modeled using multiple solid obstacles.
Free-slip boundary conditions and an atmospheric wind profile are applied.
Visualized outputs include temperature, divergence, density, pressure, and velocity vectors.
Watch as we examine the formation of lee waves and how atmospheric stratification influences the flow dynamics.

This is a great example to verify the accuracy of FDS simulations in complex environmental conditions.
