Fascinating to see this payments activity data reported by the RBA, today.
That the ATM withdrawals are so low is perhaps expected, given the low use of cash in Australia now. And noticeable that that so many purchases are made by using debit cards, with money directly coming from accounts, rather than by using the to be repaid “one day” credit cards.
What this data does not show is who is using what financial facility (though we can guess who some may be). It could be a useful marketing tool were there data that could also explain - in broad terms or for segments - who were using the different cards and what those were being used for.
