Penn State vs. Minnesota 1997 GAME STORY
This was probably the toughest games to stomach or figure out for Penn State fans, which resulted in a victory. The Nittany Lions did not deserve to win this game by any stretch imaginable, yet the irony of the day was that the win saved an undefeated season (for the time being). Minnesota outplayed the home team the entire game, until the very end. Even as the Gophers gift wrapped Penn State the opportunities to take the lead in the 4th quarter, the Lions still couldn't take advantage of them. They did though, in the end, make just one more play than Minnesota to come from behind and win by one point in quite the eye-opener as Penn State was one of the top ranked teams in the country.
On a day where there were very few top performers, tailback Curtis Enis shown the brightest, with a 112 yards on 26 carries, along with 2 rushing touchdowns. The Lions improved their undefeated record to six wins, while Minnesota lost its fifth game in contrast to its two wins at the time. Minnesota would finish the 1997 season with a 3-9 record.
