Liability insurance is insurance that you buy to protect you, your family and your assets in the event you or your family gets involved in a collision and you're at fault, you're negligent. The other party sues you and the liability insurance coverage will pay for the damages.
However, that insurance will only pay for the damages in the amount that you contracted to buy. So if you bought a $10,000 automobile liability insurance policy but you've caused $100,000 in insurance losses, they're only going to pay $10,000. You're going to have to pay the other $90,000.
