A patron noticed that German World Games player Steffen Döscher almost never throws a flick. Felix tracked every one of his 59 throws across five games to find out whether that observation held up — and what it means for how teams should prepare defensively.
Döscher threw 52 backhands, 6 flicks, and 1 off-hand backhand at World Games 2022 — roughly 88% dominant-hand backhands — while contributing meaningfully to Germany's O-line flow through quick release, centering passes, and inward turns from the sideline
His three turnovers on 59 throws matched Germany's overall completion rate, showing that a constrained throwing repertoire isn't necessarily a liability — and may actually sharpen the skills you do rely on
Only one team (the USA, using force middle) made Döscher throw more than one flick across the whole tournament; no team appeared to have scouted and targeted his flick discomfort systematically
Belgium at EUCF came closest — Lander Decraen switches the force when Döscher catches on the break side, trying to trap him on the sideline — showing that player-level scouting can create marginal turnover opportunities even if it doesn't produce clean blocks every time
