Today, we demo one of the first stave shell drum kits from the drum makers at Doc Sweeney Drums. Very few drum companies produce stave shell drum kits, so it's always exciting to play or listen to one when you get a chance. The shells are all Padauk shells with the toms and snare being 3/8 of an inch thick and the bass drum being 1/2 inch thick. The drums look great and sound fantastic too.
We paired up this kit with some Meinl Byzance Foundry Reserve cymbals: 22" Light Ride, 18" Crash and 14" Hi Hats.
The shells have a really great darker tone with really nice resonance and the dark complexity of the Foundry Reserve cymbals work really well with this kit too.
