Consumer Advisory on Medical Debt Collection
On October 1, 2024, the CFPB issued a Consumer Advisory with practical steps consumers can take if they have received collection notices for medical bills. Their advice: pause and review your rights when you hear from a medical debt collector. The Bureau says medical bills can be confusing and unclear. Some people simply pay to avoid the hassle, without knowing their rights. We explain.
