ELECTRIBE 2 ARPEGGIO: Part 2 - Advanced Step Edit Techniques
The number one missing thing in the new Electribes is the simple ability to make proper Arpeggios like in the Korg ESX/EMX. It used to be as simple as holding down amount of notes you wanted in your Arpeggio. While I love my Electribe 2 I can understand how this has caused issues with Electribe purists. In this quick 3 part video series I am sharing my "work-arounds" to get proper "sounding" Arpeggios for my music and for my band Toaster Music.
In Part 1 • ELECTRIBE 2 ARPEGGIO: Part 1 - Basic Step ... we went over the basics of precisely choosing the notes and last step needed to create an Arpeggio. In this video, Part 2 of our series, we are going to look at how Scale and Key Mode make it easy to create great sounding Arpeggio like melodies, a short sequence of notes, with out the hassle of paying attention to what menu screen is showing. It allows for more spontaneity in a live performance or even in the studio looking to "start something".
What's happening is the Scale and Key mode over rides any note input via Step Edit...this is a great way to create improvised music on the Electribe 2.
For this demo, set your last step to 4. Set your scale to to Ionian and set the key to C. Next turn Scale and Key mode to "ON". Go into Step Edit mode. Move to the page that lets you change the notes. We will be using the notes C3 - E3 - G3 - C4. From there we will change the notes.
What you will notice is since we are in Ionian, when we dial in a minor the next major note will be selected or heard. While the menu screen shows a minor note is dialed in we are hearing the next major. With this method you will be able to dial in clear quality Arpeggios with very little headache.
I will address one important caveat; in order to keep your Arpeggio like melodies you have to keep Scale Mode on in the part. Outside that one issue, this method still worth it and fun.
let's say you expand your sequence to 16 steps, set the last step to 16, then just have fun randomly dialing in notes all across the pattern. New sonic possibilities await!
