Published in 1855, the book “The Ancient Music of Ireland” introduced the beautiful melody of “A Londonderry Air” from County Londonderry in print for the first time. In 1910, English author Frederic Weatherly wrote the well-known lyrics “Danny Boy”, which is the title that the ballad is known with as Northern Ireland’s unofficial national anthem. With countless interpretations and arrangements, the piece has become one of the world’s most played compositions.
