At our August Pain Science Lecture, Stanford fellow Dr. Keeland Williams discussed chronic pain management in patients with sickle disease. He also explored how these conditions affect specific patient populations, predominantly those of color.

Dr. Williams studied biomedical engineering at Clemson, SC and moved on to obtain his medical degree from The Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his transitional year program at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. He completed his anesthesiology residency at NYU Langone, Manhattan, NY before moving on to Stanford to study pain medicine. He is clinically interested in pain medicine, but also has a personal stake in researching healthcare disparities within medicine. He enjoys running and hiking.

Fun fact: In high school after a summer of saving up, he bought an automatic Ford Mustang without knowing how to drive it. Williams learned how to drive it overnight before successfully driving it to school the next day.
