Chronic pain and sexual health difficulties are often linked, but their connection can be challenging for patients and even providers to discuss. This presentation sought to normalize sexual concerns experienced by those with chronic pain and empower attendees to discuss possible interventions with their providers.
Our speaker, Dr. Karie Meltzer is a Pain Psychology Fellow in the Stanford Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Pain Medicine. She completed both her PhD in Clinical Psychology and APA-accredited internship at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Meltzer's personal and professional experience in fitness led to a particular interest in the connection between pain and psychosocial functioning. While completing her clinical psychology practicum in psycho-oncology, she developed a passion for helping patients with medical problems navigate sexual health concerns. She is excited to share this passion with Stanford Health.
