EXTREME AIRSCATTER FM DX: 780km CROATIA
FM DX: 98,5 HRT R2 (Drugi Program Hrvatskog Radja) from Zagreb/Sjleme transmitter, 120kW received @778km near Warsaw via Airscatter - a kind of distant propagation created by a flying airplane (approx. mid-distance on a direction to a DX, bit closer to receiving point). This is my furthest airscatter catch.

my reference for identifying it then (2007) was HRT R2 feed on //satellite HotBird
Airscatter is a common occurrence and with a good receiver, external antenna and a plain horizon, you can observe it with distances up to 600-800km any day - but not any moment - there should be a plane in around 300-350km range for the furthest DXs. The reception lasts quite short, less than one minute by the most distant transmitters. By the closer ones, you will observe a distinct fading, "waving" (signal quickly going up&down&up&down). Random moment of DX reception makes it sometimes tricky to identify - a stream of targeted station will be certainly helpful.
