Napoli and Dynamo Kyiv faced off in their first group match or the UEFA Champions League for 2016-2017. Napoli was able to come out with 3 points with 2 goals coming from new striker, Arek Milik.

The visitors started off the game positively, but couldn't find the right touch in the final third. After 15 minutes, Kyiv was playing much better and started to threaten the Italian club. Dynamo Kyiv was able to break through in the 26' when Andriy Yarmolenko whipped a ball into the box that ultimately ended up at the feet of Denis Garmash who was able to finish with a goal to put Kyiv up 1-0.

However, after conceding the goal, Napoli woke up and started to push for a tying goal. They got that in the 36' through new striker Arek Milik. Faouzi Ghoulam whipped in a beautiful cross that found the head of Milik who headed it into the net to tie the match at 1-1.

Then in the 47', the 2nd minute of stoppage time for the first half, Jose Callejon whipped a ball in that Dries Mertens got a shot on which was cleared by a Kyiv defender before falling to the head Milik who was able to guide the ball in the net again for his 2nd goal of the match, which proved to be the game winning goal.

Napoli got sloppy in the second half after starting off well, but they were able to keep the score at 2-1. Kyiv was not able to get any clear-cut chances to score a second goal. Kalidou Koulibaly was impressive and was able to shut down Yarmalenko whenever he was challenged in the second half. Jorginho Alain put in a great performance with a great overall passing accuracy throughout the game to support that claim.

Napoli faces Benfica at the Stadio San Paolo in their next Champions League match on September 28th. Benfica tied their first Champions League match 1-1 against Besiktas.
