Napoli vs. Bologna 3-1 Review 17/9/16 - Milik Rescues the Day for Napoli
Napoli defeated Bologna 3-1 at the Stadio San Paolo on Saturday night with the help of Arek Milik's two goals off the bench.
Napoli dominated the first half. The first goal came via Jose Maria Callejon on a header, which was perfectly placed on top of his head by Lorenzo Insigne with a beautiful assist in the 14th minute. Napoli looked poised to score another goal before halftime with how they were controlling play, but no chances resulted in a second goal.
Manolo Gabbiadini really struggled in the match overall. He didn't seem to be making many great runs and when he did make runs, his teammates did not feed him the ball. Insigne could have served him a ball, which would have had Gabbiadini straight through to the keeper, but Insigne decided to shoot the ball instead.
Coming out of the half, Bologna was hungry and was looking for the tying goal. Napoli was all over the place and playing sloppily. Bologna found their tying to goal to make it 1-1 in the 56th minute when Simone Verdi launched a long range shot on target that Pepe Reina made an error on in his attempt to save the shot, letting it in the net for a goal.
Gabbiadini came off the pitch in the 61st minute for Arek Milik and it proved to be a great substitution for Maurizio Sarri. Milik scored 6 minutes into coming on the pitch in the 67th minute when Marek Hamsik gave him a great assist through a tight window and then chipping it over the goalkeeper to put Napoli ahead 2-1.
The Polish striker struck once again in the 78th minute with a left footed strike from outside the box that had enough power to get past Bologna's keeper who actually got his hands on it.
Napoli were able to play a bit better and successfully close the match out to a 3-1 victory. The azzurri now face Genoa in the Serie A on Wednesday, September 21st.
