An automatic half barrier crossing found in between the villages of Hinxton and Duxford about 10 miles south of Cambridge. It's on a quiet country road which spends a lot of the time shut around the crossing due to the nearby Hinxton / Duxford ford (where the road crosses a river at level) frequently having its water level too high for the safe use of vehicles, but pedestrians and cycles can still use the road as there's also a footbridge over it. A pair of lat(er) evening services feature, both in the form of slightly newer Class 720 trains.
This is quite a rare crossing now, as it's now the only crossing anywhere on the main lines to have both the Mk.1 twin-arm barriers AND halogen bulb-type wigwags / warning lights. All equipment is still in good working order, and is standing its ground very well even well into 2024. It's likely lasted for so long as it's a very low-risk crossing, especially given how frequently the road gets closed due to the ford, and no matter how many times we've worried about road closures here over the years, they're still here today and just don't seem to budge, but as always, it's anyone's guess as to how much longer they'll be here. The alarms are also quite consistent too, showing little in the way of tone or sound fluctuation. The lower light levels at the time of filming brought out the lights better than they would in the day.
