One of the most common questions I am asked is "Do you have any tips for getting started?" Most individuals who ask this question have dreams of owning a game company and managing an awesome team of employees, but they haven't yet articulated exactly what kind of game or game(s) they'd like to build. By asking a few simple questions about your vision, your product, and your target audience, you can start to reveal the vision for your company and the goals you hope to achieve.

Yes, I am sunburned - let that also be a lesson never to rely on spray-on-lotion if you're planning to spend the day out at the beach.

Acknowledgements -
Steve Taylor - President of Wahoo Studios - for best articulating the essential question you want to be able to answer for your consumers: "Why would someone who has never played your game before want to play your game?"

Resources:
EEDAR - Video Game Marketing and Audience Demographics Insights - a good starting point for learning more about who your potential audience is

Facebook - Use the "Ad campaign" tool to define unique traits that define your audience, like "Plays D&D", likes "Magic the Gathering", or "male ages 24-34", etc. This will help you better understand the potential target size of your audience.
