‘Build it, draw it, write it, say it’ is my favourite approach to teaching the formal methods of calculation. This is my second video in the series and it focuses on how you can use this approach to bridge the gap between informal methods and the formal method of columnar subtraction. I take you through the phases of the approach and offer some guidance on some of the fundamental principles you need to consider when teaching columnar subtraction. I hope you find it useful 😀
