Kia Stinger - This Just Happened
Just cruising along on the road when I suddenly hit something that appeared rolling towards me. At first I thought it was a small animal that was just hit by the truck in front of me. After reviewing the dashcam footage it turns out that the white pick-up truck in front dropped its 4-point attachment trailer hitch on the road. I had no way of avoiding it even if I had a chance as doing so would had caused more damage and for sure injury to myself and others.
This was a best case of a bad situation. Unfortunately for the Stinger, it hit pretty hard. From what I can tell from the superficial damage is that the shroud underneath the car was ripped to shreds and possible puncture of either the transmission lines or pan as there was transmission fluid spewing everywhere.
There were some friendly bystanders willing to help, but there were also some unneeded ignorant punks on the road that were either yelling or cracking jokes (that's New Jersey for you). The pick-up truck owner returned to the scene of the accident and admitted fault that it was his hitch that came off his truck. That is something unheard of nowadays, but am thankful he stayed until the police showed up.
Speaking of first responders, there were police, firefighters, ambulance, and hazmat people on the scene as this made a huge mess on the road and they might have anticipated the worst.
My family and I, including others on the road to the side and behind me thankfully came out of this unscathed.
I just hope my Stinger can be fixed.
