What a great season! UNDEFEATED??? WHAAAT???
I had so much fun photographing the boys as they played each game...and won! I've never been much of a sports fan but watching the Jr. Cougars every move through my zoom lens has made a huge fan out of me!
What can I say? I was continually impressed by this team. Full disclosure, #8 was my runaway favorite player, but he is my grandson after all. Aside from my awe at his prowess on the field, I was absolutely amazed by how well this whole team worked together. As I looked through all of the film and photographs I was delighted again and again by their skill and their sportsmanship. What an embarrassment of riches, eh? How does one team get so many great players????
My hat is off to the coaches of this great team. Not only did they teach the boys how to play well...they taught them how to play together. They taught them how to be graceful winners. They taught them how to be the kind of winners who never lose sight of the fickle finger of fate that can always turn against them. Again, full disclosure, I do have a favorite. He's the one who created #8 for me after all! Even so, I'm just so proud of Lou and the entire coaching team. They taught the boys a lot more than football.
As a soft-hearted observer, I was especially touched by how the boys supported one another through thick and thin. But not just the boys on their own team. I caught many, many instances of our Jr. Cougars patting their opponents on the back and helping them up after a tackle. I have to believe those particular skills will have far-reaching effects on the boys. Those behaviors don't manifest on their own. They are a product of great leadership. This is the biggest reason I am grateful for the high caliber of our coaching staff. Way to go coaches!
This may be the only "undefeated" season any of these boys ever get to experience. They are rare and that's a good thing. But what an experience, eh!? I hope we all will treasure the multitude of reasons why this season was as amazing as it was.
I don't know how the coaches will ever be able to choose just one MVP. The Capital Christian Jr. Cougars was chock full of stars!
