You've probably heard of the the trolley problem for autonomous vehicles. The issue of self driving car ethics is everywhere. But do these ethics questions actually matter in the real world?

If a vehicle is heading towards two different people and we need to decide who the self driving car kills, is this something even worth considering? Will tech ethics change the way that we live our lives in the smart cities of the future?

As seen in videos by boyinaband and Up and Atom, the MIT moral machine is a popular tool which brings the autonomous vehicle trolley problem to everyone. But does the MIT moral machine have any foundation from a self driving car engineering point of view, as opposed to being purely a tool used by those in the field of ethics?

I'm a self driving car engineer with a PhD and want to take you through how a self driving car engineer reacts to the trolley problem in an easy to understand way.
