Preventing cardiac arrests is better than doing a code blue!
But 95 percent of RNs only give 70 percent of the potassium!
If only the Nursing Instructors and textbooks would teach students or nurses how to program an IV pump to give the entire dose of IV electrolytes, we could avoid some of those "codes".
Learn how to program the IV pump with sufficient "volume to be infused" (VTBI) to give all of the electrolyte.
Hint: the first 25 CCs through your IV pump gives the patient zero potassium!
