Nurses need to empty the IV tubing by programming the IV pump appropriately.
95 percent of RNs leave the IV tubing full of antibiotic, and many of them leave 20 CCs in the bag too. They are not thinking.
Nursing instructors and textbooks fail to guide students or nurses on how to program an IV pump to give the entire dose of IV antibiotics.
This video teaches the missing information so that nurses will program the IV pump with sufficient "volume to be infused" or VTBI to empty the antibiotic out of the IV tubing.
