This house designed by Studio Acis is not defined by rooms, it is defined by relationships between spaces, levels, and landscape.
Set in Mananthawady, Wayanad, the Athira–Paras Residence is conceived as a set of “Pavilions of Life,” where each functional zone is treated as a distinct spatial volume. Instead of compressing life into a single mass, the architecture separates and reconnects it through carefully layered levels and transitions.
The design draws directly from the Western Ghats landscape, using framed views as a primary organizing tool. Certain volumes anchor into the ground, while others extend outward or appear elevated—creating a visual rhythm between stability and lightness across the site.
Inside, the house is organized as a continuous flow of daily life. Living, dining, and kitchen spaces are visually and spatially connected, allowing openness without losing functional clarity. This flow extends outward into smaller outdoor moments that strengthen the connection to climate and terrain.
A key social layer of the design is its permeability. Elements like direct kitchen access points and connections to neighboring homes reinforce a sense of community, blurring the boundary between private dwelling and shared living environment.
Material expression is restrained but purposeful, with lighting, ventilation, drainage, and metalwork integrated as both functional systems and aesthetic elements. The result is a home that prioritizes climate responsiveness while maintaining visual calm.
