Halloween Safety
It's that time again. Scary costumes, trick-or-treating, and generally a lot of fun, but there are things that you can do to protect your children and yourself while walking around enjoying the holiday. Sullivan County Under Sheriff Eric Chaboty has some suggestions.
"If you're going door to door, parents should supervise their children, especially young ones, and always inspect the candy, or whatever they get, and make sure everything is wrapped and looks like it's from the factory," he said. "Trunk-or-treat is the new trend that's very safe, and we recommend that, but the bottom line is, you should go out and have fun, use common sense, and be safe."
Even though the days of creating mischief on Halloween have somewhat ended, it doesn't mean that the sheriff's department won't be proactive, the undersheriff has a warning.
"You used to see a lot of egg throwing, shaving cream, and toilet paper in the trees, but I don't think kids are that much into that these days," he said. "I just want to caution you though, if you're thinking of being nostalgic and you want to do something like that, watch out because you could be arrested for it," he cautioned. "So please go out and have a good time and don't damage anybody's property."
