Drug Bust in Monticello
A 50-year-old Monticello man has been arrested following a two-month investigation into drug trafficking in Sullivan County.
District Attorney Brian Conaty announced on Monday that Raheem Meredith was charged with three felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and two misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.
“This is a major disruption in the major drug supply chain. It will help make our neighborhoods safe,” he said. “Since taking the helm of the district attorney’s office, I continue to place our efforts to combat the drug epidemic as a top priority of this administration and will continue to do so. I will not stand idly by and watch individuals such as Meredith unravel the fabric of our community at the expense of those we love, merely so he can turn a profit.”
The drugs, including over three kilos of cocaine with a street value of $100,000, were confiscated last Friday from Meredith’s residence in the Lexington Apartments on Route 42.
Also seized were 142 grams of marijuana with a street value of $1,500 and 1.7 grams of pink cocaine, a new drug containing ketamine, with $200. Some $132,000 in cash was also seized.
Sheriff Mike Schiff said drug activity is “a scourge and it’s not getting better,” but he said law enforcement is continuing to keep the heat on the criminals.
Assisting the sheriff’s and DA’s offices in the investigation and arrest were State Police, Homeland Security Investigations.
