John S. Harrison had a unique family connection: he was both the son of William Harrison, the 9th President of the United States, and the father of Benjamin Harrison, who later became the 23rd President.
But here’s where things get interesting. On the day of John’s funeral in 1857, something bizarre happened. Augustus Devin was buried in the same cemetery as John and his body has been snatched.
The next day, John’s son Ben and his brother went looking for the body at the Ohio Medical College. Shockingly, not only did they find Devin’s body soaking in a vat of brine, but they also found their own father John hanging by the neck in another room.
This strange event led to a significant change: A law was implemented that unclaimed bodies should be given to universities. As a way to discourage body snatching. Now you’re in the know! If you enjoyed this historical tidbit, don’t forget to like and subscribe!
