Rothrist (411 m ü. M.) ist eine Gemeinde im Bezirk Zofingen im Kanton Aargau. Sie liegt an der Aare und grenzt an den Kanton Solothurn. Bis 1890 war ihr offizieller Name Niederwil (Zofingen). Südlich der Eisenbahnlinie reihen sich die Ortsteile (von West nach Ost) Oberwil, Niederwil, Sennhof, Rothrist und Fleckenhausen aneinander.
Im Nordosten münden die Pfaffneren und die Wigger in die Aare. Letztere bildet gleichzeitig die östliche Gemeindegrenze. In den beiden Flusstälern liegen verstreute Weiler: Gfill und Gländ im Pfaffnerental sowie Säget im Wiggertal. Das südlichste Drittel des Gemeindegebiets ist mit Langholzwald bedeckt, Teil des grössten zusammenhängenden Waldgebiets des Kantons Aargau. Der höchste Punkt befindet sich auf dem Räckholderhubel auf 501 m ü. M., der tiefste auf 395 m ü. M. an der Wigger-Mündung in die Aare.
Nachbargemeinden sind Aarburg, Oftringen, Strengelbach, Vordemwald, Murgenthal sowie die solothurnischen Gemeinden Boningen und Olten.
Rothrist (411 m above sea level) is a municipality in the Zofingen district of the canton of Aargau. It is situated by the Aar river and borders on the canton of Solothurn. Until 1890, the municipality was officially called Niederwil (Zofingen). South of the railway line, several districts lie next to each other (from west to east): Oberwil, Niederwil, Sennhof, Rothrist and Fleckenhausen.
In the northeast, the Pfaffneren and the Wigger issue into the Aar. The Aar is also the eastern boundary of the municipality. Small hamlets are situated displaced from the other districts in the valleys of these two rivers: Gfill and Gländ in the Pfaffnerental valley and Säget in the Wiggertal valley. The southern third of the municipal area is covered by side grain forests, which are part of the largest continuous forestland of the canton of Aargau. The highest point is located at the Räckholderhubel at an altitude of 501 m above sea level, the lowest point lies at the outlet of the Wigger into the Aar at an altitude of 395 m above sea level.
Neighboring municipalities are Aarburg, Oftringen, Strengelbach, Vordemwald, Murgenthal and the Solothurn municipalities of Boningen and Olten.
