Die Gemeinde Gonten (902 m ü. M.) im Kanton Appenzell Innerrhoden reicht von Jakobsbad bis Gontenbad und Rapisau. Bekannteste Erhebung ist der mit einer Luftseilbahn erschlossene Kronberg (1'662 m ü. M.). Der politische Bezirk Gonten entstand 1872. Sehenswert ist die katholische Pfarrkirche St. Verena, die 1863 in neugotischem Stil erbaut wurde. Von Jakobsbad führt ein 5 km langer Barfussweg nach Gontenbad.
Gonten (902 m above sea level) is a municipality (officially labeled as district) in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden in Eastern Switzerland and comprises the area from Jakobsbad to Gontenbad as well as Rapisau. The most famous elevation is the Kronberg (1,662 m above sea level), which is accessible via aerial cableway. The district of Gonten originated in 1872. A highlight is the Catholic parish church St. Verena, which was built in 1863 in neo-Gothic style. A 5-km-long barefoot trail leads from Jakobsbad to Gontenbad.
