Welcome back to another FTC Robotics Building Concept Breakdown: Today, we’re going through fasteners. This video tutorial steps you through what fasteners are, how they work in conjunction with the GoBilda system, and what tricks you should keep in mind when selecting the correct fastener for the job.

• Always select fasteners that are the right length for your application.
• A bolt should extend slightly beyond the nut but not excessively.
• Avoid bolts that are too short or too long, as they can compromise the integrity of your build.
• Washers help distribute the load of a fastener and prevent damage to softer materials.
• Flat washers are great for spreading force, while split washers add vibration resistance.
• Proper washer use can extend the lifespan of your components.
• Lock nuts are designed to stay secure under vibrations, a common issue in robotics.
• Types include nylon-insert lock nuts, all-metal lock nuts, and more.
• Use lock nuts strategically to avoid fasteners loosening during matches.
• Loctite helps secure fasteners by preventing them from loosening due to vibration.
• Choose the right type (e.g., blue for removable, red for permanent).
• Apply sparingly to threads—too much can make removal difficult or damage parts.
• Tighten fasteners evenly to avoid uneven stress on components.
• Avoid overtightening, which can strip threads, or undertightening, which can lead to instability.
• The last line in the system should be threaded.
