It’s #Week42 of my #52Songs52Weeks songwriting challenge and my assignment was to write a song about addiction. I actually wrote this very personal song called #HoldOn, many years ago, but decided to dust it off and update it for this week’s song. It’s not a commercial song in any way, just a song about watching someone struggle. Sometime you write for the radio. Sometimes you write for the soul. This was the latter. The song took on even more significance this this week, when one of my high school friends was found unresponsive a few days after I filmed this. He left behind a young daughter. I am running out of fingers and toes counting the number of people around me who have had their lives shattered by addiction. If you are struggling with addiction or know someone who is, reach out for help.
