How to remove duplicates in excel (highlight, sort, filter & remove in All excel versions)
You want to know how to remove duplicates in excel? Well, in this video I will not only show you how to remove the duplicates but I will also show you how to highlight them, how to sort them, how to filter them and then finally I will show you how to remove the duplicates in excel columns and rows and this method of removing duplicates in excel will work in all Microsoft excel versions.
1. How to highlight duplicates in excel.
Select all the data in the column
Go to excel ribbon the click on Home Tab, click on Conditional formatting, highlight cells rules, duplicate value- our duplicate values are now highlighted
On the same dialogue box we can also check the unique values and get them highlighted by click on the drop down menu and select on unique- and our unique values are now highlighted.
You can also change the highlight color there and choose the one you want to fill.
Lastly click on ok.
2. To sort the highlighted duplicates.
Click on data, under sort and filter click on sort, a dialogue box of sort pop-up
Here on sort by column- choose on the column you want to sort the highlighted duplicates, sort on- cell color, order- choose on the color, and lastly choose whether you want to see the highlighted color on top or bottom.
3. Filter to see the highlighted duplicates only.
On data tab, under sort and filters click on filters, then go on the column you want to filter duplicates
Click on the drop down menu, filter by color and choose the fill color and now we have just the duplicates, click again on the drop down menu and this this time lets sort by A to Z lowest to highest.
4. Remove the highlighted duplicates and unhide the other unique values
On data tab, under data tools category click on remove duplicates, uncheck the other columns and just remain with column you want to remove duplicates then click ok.
You can also remove duplicates in more than one column or by selecting all the cells and clicking on remove duplicates.
That’s how you can highlight, sort, filter and remove duplicates in all Microsoft excel versions.
