Text to Columns in Excel (2 Super Methods to Split Text)
learn how text to columns in excel works. I will show you two methods how to split texts mixed up in a single cell into different columns using an option in excel known as convert text to columns.
1.separate text to columns in excel using Delimited method.
This method will be applicable where data in the excel cells is separated by some form of delimiters, such as semicolons, commas, etc.
So lets see an example of such a data.
Steps to follow
Select all the data in the column
Go to excel ribbon, click on data, under data and tools click on text to column, now text to column wizard pops up and here we have some steps we need to complete to convert our text to column, so lets choose delimited, then we click next, select the applied delimeters and click next and choose where you want your data to be located and click finish.
2. Separating text to columns using Fixed-Width method.
As the name suggests the texts width in the cells should be fixed or should be the same for this method to apply.
So lets see an example of such data
Go to excel ribbon, click on data, under data and tools click on text to column, now text to column wizard pops up and here we have some steps we need to complete to convert our text to column, so lets choose fixed-width, then we click next, here we set our column breaks or field widths using the break line then after setting it click next and choose where you want your data to be located and click finish.
So lets stop using the traditional method of copying and pasting to split a single column of text into multiple columns because its very tiresome and time consuming.
