Audio quality comparison of high efficiency audio codecs HE-AAC v2 and the newer xHE-AAC at extremely low bitrates (12 kbps and 24 kbps). These codecs make it possible to stream music at acceptable quality on connections with very low bandwidth, such as 2G cellular, satellite, and medium wave (MW) radio. In fact, xHE-AAC is the codec specified by Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM), a global standard for digital radio broadcasts designed to work in the AM and FM bands.
