If you're unsure of the context of this video, read on: This is a follow up video to my "What You Lose When You Compress Music to MP3, M4A, WMA, etc." video. Adding the difference file to the compressed MP3 indeed restores the original WAV quality.

If [Difference] = [WAV] - [MP3],
then [MP3] + [Difference] = [WAV]
Note: LAME, the MP3 encoder Audacity adds a delay to the MP3 (this is a limitation of the MP3 format). To remove this delay, 2,257 samples of audio must be deleted from the beginning of the MP3. Then, the MP3 and difference files should be correctly aligned.
This solution to the poor quality of low-bitrate MP3s is not practical, though, because the purpose of the MP3 format (and other compressed audio formats) is to reduce file size. In this case, you now need two files, the compressed MP3 plus a much larger lossless difference file.
