Old & Abandoned: Lost forgotten road to nowhere
Another urban exploring discovery.
This road may have been part of the Easton-Morristown Turnpike in Warren and Morris counties of New Jersey. That dates back to the early 1800s! It precedes modern day Route 57 leading to now old Route 24.
It crosses over a brook leading to the Musconetcong river. What was once travelled upon by settlers of the area is now a road that leads to nowhere.
The road is considered to be a macadam road which is named after a Scottish engineer named John Loudon McAdam . The road is constructed in which crushed stones are placed in shallow, convex layers and compacted thoroughly.
Sadly, this is all that remains of this road in Hackettstown, NJ. Although deteriorated, the stone work arches have held up. This video shows how beautifully these roads were constructed.
