Lexus RZ EV Review - Select Car Leasing
Last year, we took the Lexus RZ for spin. And since driving a Lexus, it's amazing the number of Lexi you see around.
The RZ represents the first dedicated battery-electric vehicle from Japanese manufacturer Lexus.
And with a range in excess of 250 miles between charges, as well as considerable power of 312 PS, the RZ proves more than a match for rivals such as the Audi e-tron or the Tesla Model Y.
The Lexus RZ shares an electric platform with the Toyota bZ4X. The Lexus, however, is more powerful and boasts a more refined interior than the Toyota.
The RZ’s exterior has been designed to mirror the natural athletic poise of the Cheetah, Lexus claims. The aforementioned big cat is agile and adept - as is the Lexus RZ, which comes with ‘DIRECT4’ all-wheel-drive as standard.
The other solely battery powered vehicle in the Lexus stable is the UX 300E - an electrified incarnation of the regular UX hybrid.
Where the UX 300E enjoys a 54.3 kWh battery, the RZ has been given a larger 71.4 kWh unit, which is similar in size to the powerplant of the Audi e-tron Technik 50 quattro.
Power is channelled to both the front and rear axles, resulting in a 0-62mph acceleration time of just 5.6 seconds.
Using a 7 kW home wall box will fully-recharge the battery in around 10 hours, while a 150 kW fast charge will take the energy from 10-80% in 25 minutes. Be sure to get the most out of every charge and consult our guide on picking your ideal charger.
Meanwhile base ‘Premium Plus Pack’ models are loaded with equipment as standard, including a panoramic glass roof, head-up display, and the Lexus ‘Link Pro Multimedia System’, which features a large 14 inch touchscreen.
You also get the ‘Lexus Safety System + 3’, which provides a suite of driver assistance and safety technology, including pre-collision intervention and dynamic radar cruise control with ‘Curve Speed Management’.
