BYD Seal EV Review - Select Car Leasing
The sleek Seal is a head-turning electric saloon from Chinese manufacturer BYD - aka ‘Build Your Dreams’. And boy did it turn ours!
And with a range of up to 354 miles between charges as well as stylish looks both inside and out, the BYD Seal is a genuine leasing rival to the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6.
The Seal is BYD’s flagship vehicle, sitting above the Atto 3 crossover and the more compact Dolphin.
Like all of BYD’s cars, the Seal features a patented ‘Blade’ electric battery. It’s produced in-house at BYD and because of the way it’s designed - with the battery incorporated into the structure of the vehicle itself - you get improved handling as well as optimised interior space.
It’s also what’s known as a ‘LFP’ (Lithium iron-phosphate) battery, which is free from cobalt, cheaper to produce, and more sustainable.
Meanwhile the battery itself is a 82.5 kWh unit that supports rapid charging at 150 kW, which can replenish the energy from 30-80% in just 26 minutes.
The BYD Seal is also potent.
Entry level models have power of 313 PS and can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 5.9 seconds, while the more powerful all-wheel drive Seal ups the power to 530 PS and drops the 0-62 mph sprint time to 3.8 seconds - which is rapid.
The BYD Seal comes equipped with a 15.6 inch rotatable screen that responds to voice commands, a 10.25-inch full instrument LCD panel, and a full suite of driver assistance and safety tech, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane change assist, and a 360-degree panoramic camera.
