This is how you eliminate the idea of competition...
So, I used to have this strange... reflex.
From time to time, when stumbling upon someone on the internet whose life and business seemed to be really working for them, my brain would do this thing.
It would start to imagine how their life was somehow easier than mine or why growing an online presence, starting a business or making money came more naturally to them than it did to me.
Basically, I would size up and judge a complete stranger just for... existing and appearing to be happy.
Then, I would check myself.
I don't know this person. Or their family, background or trauma.
I don't know what they went through, worked through, or how they managed to succeed in spite of how life once was for them.
I don't know any of that.
But I know this:
It's hard to learn from someone while judging them.
And it's hard for me to allow things to come more naturally, go well, or be on a continual upward trajectory for me while judging someone for appearing to have the same.
I know that by judging others, I am discounting them... while making excuses for myself.
And that's... gross. It's truly not the vibe any of us are here for.
Am I right?
Also, I know how I showed up for all these years and how easy I might make it look some days. (I said for years: It took a lot of work to make it look this easy.)
Not because it was always easy, but because I wanted it bad enough to... do it with all of me, to find my way, figure it out bit by bit, take some hard f*ing hits and to end up... in a place where there is, often, ease to my job and day.
Let's tell the truth about all of this:
No one is born with an Instagram following.
We all have the task of designing and then executing our lives based on our desires.
It's not that the playing field is even. It's that we are all incredible.
We all have something to give.
We are all here to create, grow and maintain the things we want.
It's time to show the f* up.
