I recorded this about three and half weeks ago when I was taking our two youngest to dinner alone for the first time.
I got everyone in the car and pulled out onto the road and thought, “So… where do we go?”There is the diner very near our house (easiest option). There is the outdoor shopping area down the hill one direction (second easiest option).
But, I didn’t want to go to either of those places.
When I thought about one of my favorite streets and one of my favorite areas…
And a restaurant I had taken Canaan to a million times… it felt like…
Freedom.
Maybe because the internet tells you to dread two under two. Maybe because my routine with two under two was feeling a little rocky at that time. (It’s smoother by the week. The baby slept through the night the past two nights — 10 pm to 10 am with a 6 am dream feed — and I am so impressed by her. And us! Our new scheduling is shaping up beautifully!)
It felt a little more daunting to go where I truly wanted. A slightly farther drive, would get home a little later, etc. Would they get too tired? Was I crazy?
But once you know which option feels right… you can’t un-know that. So, that is where we went.
And it was perfect.Canaan was his charming self and the baby slept through a big chunk of the experience. lol
We took a little walk after, got home a little after Canaan’s bedtime, and everything was… really good.
And I was reminded I can still do what I want… it just looks a little different now.Following something (in this case freedom) tends to create more of itself.
Let the things you want more of lead you.
God is in the desire. Destiny is in the desire.
Your next steps are in the moves that feel scary, but also feel good.
From solo dinners with two babies to businesses that allow you to jet-set…
It’s all available. It’s all here. And you are… worthy.I love you.
Q: What was your experience like transitioning to motherhood? Or from one kid to two? Or three kids to four? Or adding step kids to the fam? Or bio kids to a fam that already had step kids? Or any other big transition you can think of?
It matters. It all matters.
